Dr. Hristo Boytchev is originally from Bulgaria. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical School in Varna, Bulgaria in 1991 and immigrated to South Africa in 1992.


He passed the entry exams for foreign qualified doctors and completed his fellowship in General Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand.
Dr. Boytchev became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa in 1999.


He completed his Masters of Medicine dissertation at the University of Witwatersrand in 2002.


He also completed Trauma Fellowship at Johannesburg General Hospital in 2002.


He specialized further in Vascular Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand and obtained Cert of Vascular Surgery degree in 2004 and is a registered Vascular Surgeon.


He worked at Milpark Hospital as a General and Trauma surgeon and later on as a Vascular Surgeon 1999-2007 and also in Der Dritter Orden, Munich, Germany 2006.


He worked as a Vascular Surgeon at Netcare Union Hospital 2007-2015.


Dr. Boytchev relocated to Cape Town in 2015 and has been working as a Vascular Surgeon at Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital since then.


He was integral to the design and the implementation of of the Hybrid Cath Labs in both Union Hospital and CBMH.


Dr. Boytchev specialises in vascular surgery with a special interest in minimally invasive arterial and venous endovascular surgery, venous access for patients with chronic renal failure and the management of diabetic foot.
